Designing Framework to Address
Non-Medical Needs in Oncology Care
We are excited to share the work of a truly unique collaboration between the Patient Advocate Foundation’s Patient Insight Institute, the Michigan Oncology Quality Consortium, or MOQC, and its Patient Caregiver Oncology Quality Council, or POQC. Together, we have been exploring ways to build a patient-centered approach to identifying cancer patients’ non-medical needs, like transportation challenges, housing instability, or financial hardship. Instead of developing tools behind closed doors, we involved people with lived experience in every step. We also collected data directly from oncology practices to ensure the framework would work in real clinical environments. The result is a more practical, compassionate, and patient-informed approach.
