About

Current Priority Areas

The Patient Insight Institute’s focus is ensuring healthcare is informed by the whole patient experience by giving voice to those who have been historically under-represented. It aims to empower those who both desire to improve access and affordability of all patients and see the patient perspective as critical to informing change.

Built on PAF’s rich 25-year history of service, experience, and data, the Patient Insight Institute connects research, healthcare, and policy leaders to a patients and caregivers with firsthand experience of access and affordability issues. As patient-centricity becomes a critical component of care, research and policy– the Patient Insight Institute ensures ALL voices are included.

Patient Insight Institute initiatives:

•identify and prioritize patient and caregiver needs and outcomes

•advance the next generation of person-centered and patient/caregiver-engaged health services research

•generate evidence to support policy and advocacy initiatives addressing social need and social determinants of health (SDOH)

(1) Build partnerships and projects that build evidence for, and understanding of,  how SDOH, total costs of care, and associated social needs and financial burdens harm patients, families and health outcomes.

(2) Enhance the evidence base for Social Needs Navigation by defining the scope of services and demonstrating their value to patients and caregivers and strong return on investment to government, health plans/systems and other stakeholders to inform and drive policy and practice reforms .

(3) Increase the engagement of patients experiencing access and affordability challenged stemming from SDOH and from under-resourced communities in internal and external health focused initiatives to ensure diversity and representative voices are informing research, care, and policy--- thus advancing health equity.
