Stigmatizing Language in Care and Research

October 2023 — Stigmatizing language has the potential to undermine or invalidate a patient’s lived experiences. As a consequence, a patient may develop distrust towards their medical provider and/or feel uncomfortable participating in research. This report explores various terms, focusing in on patients’ feeling of the term “Financial Toxicity.”

Patient Perspectives on AI in Health

March, 2023— Patients report some knowledge of AI being used in care but less frequently report knowledge it is being used in their care. There are concerns that AI will introduce bias into the care decision making process. Patients also report concerns that AI will reduce the quality and/or personalization of care.

Patient Reported Barriers to Research

July, 2022— Patients with complex, chronic illnesses report wanting to participate in trials if barriers to their inclusion are addressed. This is especially true of those patients that have faced access and affordability challenges in the past.
